Two local fan-favourites Omari Kimweri (15-3) and Randy Petalcorin (23-1-1), will be gearing up for one of the biggest opportunities of their careers thus far; when they prepare to take each other on for the vacant WBC Silver Flyweight Title.

The event will be held on Melbourne-based promoter Brian Amatruda’s card; Frank Bianco Cup, at the Melbourne Pavilion on the 15th of April.
Both boys will likely be heading into the bout full of confidence; with Kimweri capturing the vacant WBA Pan African Light Flyweight Title in his most recent bout, and Petalcorin successfully defending the interim WBA World Light Flyweight Title in his 2 most recent bouts.
The event will include a heavyweight elimination tournament as its full undercard; with 8 heavyweights stepping up to the plate to compete against each other in 3×3 eliminator bouts.
Styled much like the popular UK domestic show “Prizefighter”, long-time promoter and owner of Big Time Boxing, Brian Amatruda, believes that the tournament ‘is an action guaranteed concept’; with 7 high-action and electrifying heavyweight fights. All fighters competing must have a record of 10 fights or less, with the majority of the contestants being debutantes.
The most notable heavyweight prospects competing in the tournament Demsey McKean (5-0) and Tai Tuivasa (3-1) will maintain the belief that victory on April 15th will push their respective careers towards an Aussie title bout. With Tuivasa already holding a 1st round TKO victory against the Aussie champ Willie Nasio (9-1), he will be an-odds-on-favourite along with McKean to win the tournament.
Promoter of the Frank Bianco Cup, Melbourne-based Brian Amatruda, maintains that the victor of Friday’s main event between Kimweri and Petalcorin will ‘become the WBC mandatory for the world title’.
With the current WBC Flyweight Title held by Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez (44-0) (the Ring Magazine #1 P4P fighter), this will be the biggest opportunity for both fighters to establish themselves within the top-tier of the division and secure a career-record big-money payday.
With Chocolatito regularly competing on HBO-aired shows, and signed with Teiken Promotions of Japan, a potential fight against Gonzalez raises the stakes for victory come April 15th.
Since first being promoted by Amatruda in 2008, Kimweri has won 13 of his 15 bouts, and throughout his career has won the Australian Flyweight Title, the WBO Oriental Light Flyweight Title, and more recently, the WBA Pan African Light Flyweight Title, with the two regional titles being competed on BTB events.
With an impressive record of 19-1-1 upon first fighting in Melbourne, Randy Petalcorin was brought over from the Philippines and promoted by Melbourne promoter Peter Maniatis, defending his PABA Light Flyweight Title on his debut fight in Australia.
Moreover, since signing with Maniatis, Petalcorin has won the vacant interim WBA Flyweight Title on a Top Rank show in Macau, during August 2014, along with a successful defense of his title in April of last year.
