Eddie Hearn Says Joshua vs Fury Could Potentially Happen Next
With three days to go until Charles Martin defends his IBF heavyweight title against Anthony Joshua, a considerable carrot has been dangled for Joshua if he were to win.
The British fighter’s promoter Eddie Hearn spoke to Sky Sports News today and said that an all British world heavyweight title unification fight could be made next if Joshua were to win and the Klitschko fight fell through for Fury:
“We are free to fight whoever we want next. I don’t expect it to be Fury next but you never know in this game, maybe the Wladimir Klitschko fight falls through. Its taken long enough. Their last fight was in November, we are now in April – there’s no concrete date. Don’t rule out Fury against Fury vs AJ in the summer.”
Hearn also interestingly pointed out that the IBF mandatory would not be called until the end of November should Joshua win their belt on Saturday night, leaving a considerable time frame hypothetically for a Fury vs Joshua British world heavyweight unification showdown to be negotiated, in theory.
First up though, the popular English heavyweight must win on Saturday night to allow any such mega match to take place later this year, along with more than likely Tyson Fury needing to beat Wladimir Klitschko again in their rematch that has yet to be finalized – unless the fight totally falls out as as Hearn suggested today, due to the length of the negotiations so far.
