Scott Quigg says Frampton Rematch Will Happen

Scott Quigg is currently recovering from a broken jaw sustained in his world super-bantamweight title loss to Belfast’s Carl Frampton, but it has not deterred his desire to get back in the ring with his rival.

The fight might not have lived up to the public’s expectations before hand, but Quigg is bullish about where he went wrong on the night.

In an interview with Kugan Cassis of IFL TV, Quigg said he has watched the fight back 6 or 7 times and is optimistic that a return fight can happen:

“There will be a rematch and when it does happen, I will put the wrong right. Whether I could have made it a clear win, whether the jaw went or not I don’t make that as an excuse. I should have knocked him out or I should have still gone forward. The early rounds were close, nothing was really happening and he might have been looking a bit busier, he wasn’t landing so in my own opinion when I watch it back, if I would have used my left hand, my left jab a lot more, been busy with my left hand, a lot more feinting – that would have won me the fight.”

There’s no denying that this must have been a very tough loss to take for a man as proud as Quigg, a constant professional who works probably as hard as anyone out there, but some might perceive the above as a slight struggle of coming to terms with the loss itself.

It is unlikely Quigg will be back in the ring soon as it will take some time for his jaw to fully heal, but I’d expect him to be back in the mix at super-bantamweight when he does get back in the ring.

Whether or not he’ll get the rematch with Frampton that he’s looking for, I’m not quite sure about that.
