Callum Smith: If You’re Good Enough Step Up

Liverpool’s Callum ‘Mundo’ Smith fights for the European title this weekend at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.

The British super-middleweight champion (18-0-13KO) finds himself fighting Frenchman Hadillah Mohoumadi (20-3-1-15KO) on Saturday night for the EBU title.

Big hitting Smith last fought in November when he put in a career best performance by dispatching of fellow Liverpudlian and domestic rival Rocky Fielding inside of one, explosive round.

The Joe Gallagher trained, 6’3, 168lbs contender has been progressing all the time since turning pro back in 2012 and if he were to stop Mohoumadi inside the distance, it would give him a one up on fellow promotional stablemate at Matchroom and current world champion in the same division James DeGale, who was taken the full distance by Mohoumadi back in October 2012 – a month before Smith turned pro.

Speaking ahead of the fight with Sky Sports News this week, Smith said:

“I’m a big believer if you are good enough then, why not, why wait around and fight a load of journeyman for a few years and pick up bad habits when you are getting everything your own way. If you are good enough, then step up. I think I’ve gradually done that and past each test, and I’ve landed myself in a final eliminator for a world title. If I didn’t feel I was ready then I wouldn’t be here. I’m a hundred per cent confident I can get the win.”
