Luke Campbell Bounces Back With 2nd Round Battering Of Sykes

Luke Campbell became the new lightweight Commonwealth champion with a decisive stoppage win that got him back on track after the first loss of his career last December.

A cagey opening round saw southpaw Campbell stay safely out of range of any attacks from Sykes, in a relatively quite opening three minutes.

Campbell’s sharpness proved to be explosive however in only the second round, with a wicked left hand dropping Sykes.

The Olympic Gold medalist followed this up with an absolutely furious barrage of punches on Sykes while he was on the ropes, prompting the towel to be thrown in at almost the exact same time that the referee decided to wave the contest off.

Campbell looked back to his usual intensity under new Cuban trainer Jorge Rubio, with lightning left hands to the body and ultimately the head on display to close the show early.

The British lightweight improved his record to 13-1 (11KO) with tonight’s dispatching of Sykes.
