Mayweather Says He’d Fight GGG On One Condition

Talk of a return to boxing still persists, Mayweather says he’d take on Golovkin if one thing happens.

Mayweather has stated he would comeback to the squared circle in different interviews in 2016 so far, however a fight with Gennady Golovkin – the middleweight destroyer who has inspired fear the world over with his knockout fists, is a bout that most definitely would get the pulses going of fight fans.

Speaking to Fight Hype this week, Mayweather said on the fight:

“I told GGG what he gotta do if he wanna fight with me. He gotta call out Andre Ward, beat Andre Ward, then I’ll fight him.”

Floyd Mayweather

Whether or not this realistically can and will happen, who knows, but the fact the Mayweather seems open to such a bout, is at least a somewhat positive development.

If Mayweather were to make a comeback and go for 50-0, surely a tilt at a version of the middleweight titles that Golovkin owns would be a big sell and an extra stamp on his legacy.

Although he also mentioned that a fight with Danny Garcia is something that interests him if he were to return too.

Time will tell what the money man decides to do.

More than likely it seems that the only fight Mayweather would return for is one against the UFC’s Irish fight star Conor McGregor.

A low risk, high reward encounter if it were to happen in Mayweather’s realm – the boxing ring.
