5 Appetizing Potential Fights For GGG Before The End Of 2016

He’s a man who struggles to get the big names in the ring due to his fearsome fists and bone chilling knockout ratio, but here’s five potential match ups for him before the end of 2016 that might get boxing fan’s juices going, should GGG get past his next defense against Dominic Wade.

Billy Joe Saunders

Fights For GGG

England’s WBO middleweight champion has an upcoming defense scheduled for the end of April against Ukraine’s Max Bursak, but there has been strong signals suggesting that he’d then take a summer showdown fight with Golovkin if he comes through it victoriously, possibly in an outdoor venue in the UK.

Stylistically, Saunders has excellent technical acumen from a boxing skills context, and could likely present some problems that GGG might not have seen before, with both outstanding head and foot movement, backed up by lightining quick hands and feet.

It would be a unification fight too, which is always a sell.

Canelo Alvarez

Fights For GGG

Perhaps the biggest out and out event of the lot for GGG would be a long awaited showdown with Mexican WBC champion Canelo Alvarez, who must first come through a fight in May with the UK’s Amir Khan to solicit any such bout becoming a tangible reality.

A reality it would more than likely then be though, with mandatory situations for titles making a fight between GGG and Canelo at long last an unavoidable likelihood, one hopes.

From a boxing standpoint it genuinely would be a mouth watering ding dong, given the pair’s exciting all action, come forward – big hitting styles.

Amir Khan

Fights For GGG

Going back to Britain’s Amir Khan for a second, a fight that hasn’t really been mentioned much for GGG is indeed one with the Bolton native.

Perhaps this is given the daunting task the lays ahead of Khan with Canelo in May, where very few are giving him a chance to upset a protagonist who will enjoy considerable weight and strength advantages on the night.

Despite this however Khan is always in exciting fights, no matter what anyone says about him, and with his large international fan bases in both the UK and USA, it would certainly carry considerable appeal to people in these countries.

Danny Jacobs

Fights For GGG

Daniel ‘Miracle Man’ Jacobs of Brooklyn currently holds the WBA ‘Regular’ middleweight strap and posses a fan friendly style, never say die attitude and enough support behind him in New York to make a potential Golovkin clash in Madison Square Garden (an arena GGG has previously sold out) a very fight indeed.

At the moment Jacobs has nothing scheduled just yet, but one would suspect any potential unification fight with WBA ‘Super’ champion Golovkin would have to wait until the second half of 2016 at the least, with a likely defense fight coming in between first for Jacobs.

A massive puncher in his own right, Jacobs is riding an 11 fight stoppage streak at the moment dating back to 2010 and a dust up between these two big hitters would surely create nothing but carnage in the ring at some point.

Bernard Hopkins

Fights For GGG

Finally, a fight that was mentioned in some quarters recently online but all be it probably the least likely of the bunch, a final fight for the great Bernard Hopkins against Golovkin at some weight, would undeniably be fascinating.

‘B-Hop’ turned ‘Alien’ Hopkins, could answer questions about how Golovkin deals with a bigger man in the ring and indeed does his power carries up, if such a fight were to take place at the 168lbs super-middleweight limit for example, a weight that would see a meeting in the middle of where the two guys have campaigned at for the last number of years as prize fighters.

It would no doubt attract a lot of interest from boxing fans the world over, looking to see if Hopkins could go out on a win against a man who is probably regarded as the most dangerous active fighter on the planet right now.
