Undefeated Wayne Adeniyi To Return On April 22nd

Following a 12-month hiatus, Rockferry’s Central Area cruiserweight champion, Wayne Adeniyi (11-0) is back in action on April 22nd to defend his title against Martyn Grainger (9-10) in Wigan on a VIP Boxing Promotions show.

The Robin Park Arena in Greater Manchester will play host to the top of the bill championship clash that will provide the unbeaten cruiserweight with the first defense of his title that he won via a thrilling points victory over Carl Dilks (18-8) back in December 2014.

Ahead of that championship contest, Adeniyi will first fight on the forthcoming Longshots Sports show – ‘The Boys are Back in Town’ – at Ellesmere Port Sports Village on March 26th.

The 33-year-old Merseysider, who has not fought since defeating Elvis Dube (6-45-2) on points in March last year, explained his delight at the news of his next two fight dates after such an extended period of inactivity:

“I’m made up to be defending my title, it’s just what I need and also getting out in March. I said I wanted to be busy this year so this is the start that I wanted. I’m confident I’ll get two good wins and I’m working with some good people now so it’s all coming together nicely. I’ve got a big year coming up.”

First up for Adeniyi, a former England amateur captain, is a six-round contest at cruiserweight level on the last weekend of March against Hungarian Gyula Bozai (15-8-3).

He commented on his forthcoming foe:

“It’s his first time boxing in England so you’ll think he’ll come and have a go. I’m grateful to Steve Wood for getting me this opportunity over six rounds to sharpen the tools, I’ll be more than ready then I’ll look towards the Grainger fight.”

Also featuring on the Longshots Sports show in Cheshire is Nathan Brough (13-1), Matty Fagan (8-1), Tommy Stubbs (3-0), Leon Woodstock Jr. (5-0), Mason Cartwright (5-0), Louis Cuddy (16-0), Joe Wood (1-0), and debutants Sean Crowley and Ricky Starkey.

The unbeaten cruiserweight has been ticking over all year and plans to hit the ground running by flying out to Malta for a training camp with Billy Corito (10-2) as the 38-year-old aims to reclaim the MBC International heavyweight title in a rematch with Reinis Porozovs (4-6-1). Adeniyi said:

“I’ll be sparring Billy Corito this week in Malta to help him with his rematch. Gonna fly to Malta on the Wednesday and it’ll be good sparring for me.”

Also on the line on the April show in the North West of England, headed by promoter Steve Wood, is Martyn Grainger’s recently attained British Challenge belt claimed with via a stunning stoppage victory over Tony Cruise (5-2) in November last year.

Known as ‘Grid’, Grainger has shared the ring with former British and Commonwealth champion – David Price and also the current Southern Area cruiserweight champion – Wadi Camacho.

The 31-year-old from Heywood will enter the contest brimming with confidence after scoring the stoppage in his last outing and picking up the newly-formed British Challenge honours.

Adeniyi commented:

“He’s a good fighter is Grainger and he got a really good win in his last fight. I’ve got a lot of respect for him but come fight night that respect will go out of the window and I believe I’ll beat him in good style for my first title defense. I’ll be training hard for this fight. I’m back with George Scofield and Louis Cuddy, and also Peter Phelan and Mick Kelly at Wirral Community Boxing Club and with Ricky Poval at Gravity Personal Training.”

He continued:

“I just want to win these two fights first; I’m not looking ahead of that yet. I’m 11-0 and the Central Area champ and I know that looking past fights is just crazy. Hopefully, with two good wins, the doors will open up for me and hopefully something else will unfold like another title, maybe. I’ve got the right lifestyle now for my career, I’m dedicated and focused on my boxing.”

Also on the bill in April is Liverpool’s Louis Cuddy (16-0), 40-years-old, in a tantalizing match-up with Bolton’s Paul Drago (8-0-1), 31-years-old.

Someone’s unbeaten record will have to go in this highly-anticipated eight-round contest between the evenly-matched 200-pounders.

Both shows – Longshots Sports on March 26th and VIP Promotions on April 22nd – promise to be exciting events, featuring title fights, unbeaten prospects and mouthwatering match-ups.
