Leo Santa Cruz vs Kiko Martinez Preview and Prediction

Leo Santa Cruz vs Kiko Martinez is not one to be missed this weekend.

With all the media speculation and hype surrounding this weekend’s big fight between undefeated 122lbs champions Carl Frampton (IBF) and Scott Quigg (WBA) on Saturday night in Manchester, the weekend’s other big divisional fight Stateside between former world champion Kiko Martinez 35-6-0-26 KOs and undefeated WBA Featherweight World Champion Leo Santa Cruz 31-0-1-17 KOs has largely gone under the radar, at least to some extent.

But make no mistake – it is a significant fight.

Martinez is the common denominator between the three unbeaten fighters this weekend, having already lost to Frampton twice by way of TKO and a unanimous decision, and also a 2nd round TKO defeat to Quigg last year.

Leo Santa Cruz needs to not only win, but win in an impressive manor against the still dangerous Martinez, to set up a future date with the Frampton vs Quigg winner should the victor move up to featherweight – or even then down the line, a possible future division super bout against the sublimely talented Rigondeaux at super-bantamweight, or again, if ‘Rigo’ ever goes up to 126lbs.

This is a massive weekend for the the super-bantamweight and featherweight divisions, and I believe Cruz will dispatch of Martinez by the 7th round in a comfortable, but possibly lackluster performance.
