The highly anticipated welterweight showdown between the two American fighters will now take place on a new date due to a recent injury suffered to Keith Thurman it has emerged.
It was reported by Jake Donovan of Boxing Scene that WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman was involved in a car accident recently that saw his airbag deploy causing minor injury to his nexk, but thankfully it is understood that the accident wasn’t anything more serious.
However the impact was significant enough that his upcoming bout on March 12th with US rival Shawn Porter has now been put on hold, with an announcement of the rescheduled date expected to come in the near future.
It is understood that the incident occurred over a week ago where Thurman discovered in sparring that the injury sustained was more significant than he first realized, after attempting to carry on and train through the problem at first.
The March 12th card has not been officially cancelled yet with apparent ongoing efforts by Showtime to salvage the show taking place at present.
No new date for Thurman vs Porter has been confirmed at this time.
