Unbeaten Mexican 122lbs rising star Diego De La Hoya returns to the ring this Friday and we caught up with him briefly during the week ahead of his latest bout.

Diego De La Hoya (cousin of famed fighter Oscar De La Hoya) is back in action on Friday night against fellow countryman Arturo Badillo (21-9-0-8KO) of Tijuana, when the two men square off at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, California.
Diego has quickly built up a name for himself in the sport as one of the names at 122lbs to watch out for in the coming months and indeed years, having racked up an impressive of 13-0-7KO record since turning professional back in 2013 when he signed with Golden Boy Promotions.
‘The Golden Kid’ comes from tremendous amateur stock having fought over 250 contests and was a part of his country’s national boxing team before becoming a pro, giving him a lot amount of experience already despite being still only 21 years of age.
During the week we asked Diego what he thought of the upcoming world title unification between Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg in his own weight class, and how far he thought he might be away from fighting for a title.
He told us:
“I think they’re both really great fighters and it will be a good fight between both of them for the fans. Right now I’m training really hard and focusing on my upcoming fights, but if my trainer thinks I’m ready for a world championship fight then I’m up for the challenge.”
