Reports: Roy Jones Retires From Boxing (Update: Jones Boxes On)

It’s been a career full of excitement and achievement, but perhaps went on a tad bit longer than some expected. Now however, it appears he has decided to hang up the gloves once and for all.

Roy Jones (age 47) who recently gained Russian citizenship, has decided to finally call it a day on his professional boxing career according to reports from Rsportu coming out of Russia. It was also reported by Sputnik News.

This might perhaps come as welcomed news for his loyal fans who have long supported Roy and no longer wanted to see him in danger of been knocked out again.

Jones’ last fight in the ring came at the hands of brutal knockout defeat from Wales’ Enzo Maccarinelli in Moscow last December, with his full fight record during his professional career now reading: 62-9-45KO.

Jones will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the sport’s great exponents during his prime, a dynamite operator with concussive power in either hand, with almost cat like reflexes at his peak.

It is understood according to reports that he will now be concentrating his efforts on his music career, while speculation also exists that he could also launch a series of boxing tournaments in Russia.

Roy Jones will retire as being only one of two men in the history of professional boxing to capture a recognised world title at both the middleweight and heavyweight limits, a feat that will take some beating.

A gifted pugilist who will never be forgotten, whenever he does decide to hang up the gloves in his own terms.

***Update*** Contrary to the above Russian media reports, Roy Jones Jr has now since come out on Twitter denying that he has officially retired just yet:

Since these initial reports Jones has gone on to fight in the ring again.
