Despite losing its biggest star last year to retirement in former undisputed pound-for-pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather, the welterweight division remains as one of the deepest in boxing.

Two of the division’s biggest names are actually set to square off in March for the WBA welterweight title when former IBF champion “Showtime” Shawn Porter meets defending boss Keith “One Time” Thurman in a highly anticipated showdown.
Porter, since surrendering his IBF strap to Kell “Special K” Brook back in 2014, has picked up back to back victories over Erick Bone in March 2015 and most recently over Adrien “The Problem” Broner last June.
Although he isn’t necessarily looking passed Thurman, “Showtime” does have his sights set on a rematch with Brook.
Recently speaking with Boxing News Online, Porter admitted that he felt as if he had got the better of Brook the first time around:
“Since you brought it up, I’m going to tell you, yes, I think I won the fight. But I don’t really think about it at all; I don’t focus on it. I’ve watched it a couple of times since, here and there. But no, it’s not on my mind at all.”
With that being said, “Showtime” plans to capture the WBA crown before setting up a massive rematch with “Special K” in which he hopes for two world titles to be on the line:
“I’d definitely like a rematch with Brook. After I win the WBA title, that’s the one thing I’d like, to go for another title. So he is in my focus, he is in my firing line. I think a rematch would be even bigger than the first fight, with two world titles on the line. It would be a much bigger spectacle.”
Although the British Brook is clearly in his cross hairs, Porter can’t get too far ahead of himself, as he obviously must get through the ultra-tough Thurman first.
