Unbeaten Wayne Adeniyi Wants To Fight 5 Times In 2016

So far Wayne has built up and impressive unblemished record in the pro ranks, but he’s looking at 2016 as the year where he really kicks on.

Central Area cruiserweight champion, Wayne Adeniyi (11-0) is looking forward to an active 2016 after only fighting once this year.

The former England amateur representative explained:

“I wanna’ box at least five times next year and be very active, it’s definitely possible.”

Adeniyi, 32-years-old, has not fought for over nine months since defeating Elvis Dube (6-45-2) on points back in March last year in his previous bout but is readying himself for big fights in the new season.

He confirmed:

“I’m looking at a date in February and then I want to be out again soon after and hopefully something else will unfold like another title, maybe.”

He continued to say:

“I’m still working alongside Louis Cuddy and George Scofield and we’ve got a good relationship with VIP; Steve Wood is a great manager and puts on at least 12 shows a year all around the North West.”

The unbeaten cruiserweight from Rock Ferry has had his personal distractions and difficulties in settling in with a set team to train with, spending time at gyms on separate sides of Liverpool, as well as also training in London with Johnny Eames for a stint. Adeniyi said:

“This week has been all about me getting back in the gym at Vauxhall Motors, now called Wirral Community, with my old coach Peter Phelan. I’m also training at Mersey ABC in my hometown, that’s where I first started 16 years ago. So, I’ll be back there using the gym every morning and Macca [Peter Phelan] is going to help me train as he’s retired now so got some time on his hands and we’ve got a good understanding.

He added:

“It’s just going to be good being in sync with my family life and it’s good to use the resources around me.”

The current Central Area cruiserweight champion won the vacant title with a close-fought small hall thriller against Carl Dilks in December last year at the Liverpool Olympia, clinching the decision at 96-95 – his first title in the professional ranks.

A former England amateur captain, Adeniyi’s aims for 2016 are already in the forefront of his mind as he looks to hit the ground running in the New Year:

“I want to box next February in a six-rounder against a good opponent. Then I’ve been lined up to defend my title against Martyn Grainger in April or May, he’s a decent cruiserweight on Steve Wood’s books and he won against Tony Cruise in his last fight who I’ve heard good things about it.”

Martyn Grainger (9-10), 31-years-old from Heywood, Lancashire, defeated prospect, Tony Cruise (5-2) in November in Barnsley in a seventh round stoppage win, ending a six fight losing streak.

Adeniyi had even further ideas mapped out for next year, continuing:

“Hoping for an English title shot or British title eliminator or the WBC Silver next year.”

The 200lbs division is currently topped by British, Commonwealth and WBA Continental champion Ovill ‘The Upsetter’ McKenzie (25-13) who just recently lost out on the IBF World title in a controversial draw with the title-holder, Victor Emilio Ramirez.

Adeniyi is hovering intently just outside of the top ten:

“I’ve had a few phone calls already off the lads in the top ten but we just haven’t been ready yet because we only just got back in the gym. I’ll be happy to box a decent fighter in my next fight to get me back into it but after that I’m ready to fight anyone in the top ten.”

He concluded:

“I just believe that I’m the best in the division and I’m not even going to talk about anyone else. I have got bags of respect for everyone above me in the division, there’s some serious boxers in there but I’m sure that I’m the best in there, I’ve just got to get settled into my training routine and rise to the top.”
