Following last weekend's world title action, we have updated our professional boxing world champions list. It Looks Like Dmitry Pirog Comeback Is On
For those who know of esteemed boxer Dmitry Pirog, good news looks like it is on the way, sooner rather than later.
Former WBO middleweight champion of the world Dmitry Pirog was regarded as one of the most talented Russian boxing exponents of the last decade or so in pro boxing, until injury unfortunately blighted his career in late 2012/early 2013 that has caused him to sit out on the sidelines for an extended period of time, to the dismay of many purist boxing fans.
Quite a few will remember very recently Daniel ‘Miracle Man’ Jacobs absolutely obliterated Peter ‘Kid Chocolate’ Quillin for the WBA middleweight championship of the world, in what was dubbed the ‘Battle of Brooklyn’.
Jacobs, a respected and genuine world champion, was previously taken stopped in 5 rounds by Pirog back in the summer of 2010.
Yeah, that’s the elite level caliber of fighter you are dealing with here.
A couple of years after that, Pirog was stripped of his title from the WBO due to at the time, opting (where very few did and still would) to fight division destroyer Gennady Golovkin for the WBA and IBO belts at the time, as opposed to facing the WBO interim champ Hassan N’Dam (back then).
While in training for the Golovkin fight the unfortunate subsequent injury occurred. Not much had been heard from the uber-talented Russian pugilist since then, at least concretely in relation to fighting again.
It looked like he was permanently retired from boxing, that is, until now:
This will come as music to the ears of fight fans looking forward to seeing the big hitting Russian (20-0, 15KO) back in action. Watch out 2016, the middleweight division just get even more spicy.
