A unification fight between the two would likely do very well on both sides of the pond, but could be a way off yet.

Speaking after his WBO middleweight title triumph over Andy Lee at the weekend, Billy Joe Saunders in a typically candid and entertaining interview with Kugan Cassius of IFL TV, initially laughed off a possible Golovkin fight:

“Golovkin can f**k off.”

But he then proceeded to say on a more serious note:

“Golovkin is world class. They are talking about him fighting big fights, I’m sure the Canelo fight is there. I’m 18 months away from that fight, I’m still learning, I’ve just become world champion. But let me tell ya, put the money on the table, put the money on the table, and yeah. Golovkin, let him go and say to me Billy Joe here’s 4 million pound. Not a problem, unification, I’ll go to America. 4 or 5 million I’ll fight Golovkin.”
