The West Ham lightweight talent has been close on different occasions at world level. This weekend he faces a stern test on Sky Box Office in the undefeated Ismael Barroso of Venezeula.

It will be the Londoner’s first fight since his heart breaking world title defeat to WBC champion Jorge Linares last May, where an injury played a massive part in his eventual 10th round TKO defeat.

However, he seems in bullish form this week and says that although Barroso is an extremely talented customer who many are predicting will be a genuine 50/50 fight for Mitchell, the Englishman believes he is “clumsy” and sees mistakes by the Venezeulan that he can capitalise on.

Speaking to Sky Sports this week, the 135 pounder said he firmly believes he will become the world champion in 2016, with an all domestic world title clash against Anthony Crolla awaiting him in the new year – should he get past Barroso on Saturday:
