Slick Jono Carroll Shines In Germany Over 10 Rounds

by Niall Doran

The Irish man seized his Sky Box Office PPV opportunity in style tonight on the undercard of Wladimir Klitschko vs Tyson Fury in Germany. The fight was taken on very late notice, but you wouldn’t have noticed it (pardon the pun).

The Dubliner improved his record to 9-0 (1KO) via a unanimous points win against Honduran puncher Miguel Gonzalez.

After a positive opening round, southpaw super featherweight Carroll settled into his boxing in the early rounds, sticking and moving behind a good jab, head movement, and crisp sharp shooting combinations.

The plodding Gonzalez kept coming at Carroll throughout the mid rounds, but had no answer for the slick boxing of his Irish counterpart.

Carroll, aged 23, looked like a man improving all the time and at his young age, looks to have tremendous promise given his display tonight, showing an ability to handle a big occasion such as tonight’s massive show in Dusseldorf.

The former Prizefighter champion looked assured through the mid rounds and right down the stretch of the contest, slipping shots, gliding in and out of range, in a real exhibition of the sweet science.

Carroll’s exemplary footwork left Gonzalez hitting fresh air at times, in a pace that had an easy tempo – controlled by Carroll throughout. An impressive day at the office.
