David Haye Comeback Details: Date, Opponent and Tickets

Former heavyweight champion of the world David ‘Hayemaker’ Haye has formally announced this morning that he will make his return to a professional boxing ring – following an extended three plus year layoff.

Details emerged at a formal press conference in London that included various stakeholders and most notably Haye himself and his new trainer Shane McGuigan, who is quickly making a name for himself as one of the leading young boxing coaches in the world.

Haye, now 35, mentioned that he felt physically good and was “firing on all cylinders”, also mentioning this was an important factor before deciding to actually make the comeback.

His opponent will be Mark De Mori of Australia for his next fight on January 16th, 2016:

Haye also mentioned that he was looking to bring a lot of “excitement” back to the heavyweight division.

‘The Hayemaker’ pointed to his three and a half year absence from the ring as being over emphasized in some quarters, mentioning that Muhammad Ali been out of the ring for a similar length of time before regaining the heavyweight title.

Haye spoke very respectfully of his comeback opponent it must be said, and expects Australian Mori to be:

“Someone who can punch and won’t fall apart.”

He also had an ominous message to the heavyweight division in that if he can translate what he’s doing in the gym with Shane McGuigan at the moment into the ring on January 16th, that at 35, he will actually be:

“Better than ever before”.
