Recently UFC female fighting sensation Ronda Rousey crossed over into the boxing world when she appeared on the cover of Ring Magazine, but tonight, she was sensationally beaten by a woman who was previously a former female world boxing champion.
At UFC 93 in Australia, Holly Holm made one of the biggest stories of the year in the combat sports world by dramatically beating the highly acclaimed Rousey, winner of ESPN’s most recent ‘Fighter of the Year’ award.
It was to prove to be a fight where boxing played a key role, with Holm’s greater experience and technique in the sweet science clearly shining through over Rousey.
There were multiple occasions where Ronda Rousey looked to come in and close the distance to go for a take down, but Holm’s sharp shooting boxing ensured on many occasions, that she was met with hard punches for those efforts.
Even though the contest was a mixed martial arts one, Holm’s representation of the noble art was evident throughout, via her adept distance control and perfectly timed shots on the outside.
