Irish boxing circles are still celebrating from what was a truly special moment in Doha yesterday when Ireland’s Michael Conlan won Gold at the World Amateur Championships.

The Belfast native became the first ever male senior world boxing champion, a feat perhaps only amplified by the fact the man is incredibly, still only 23 years of age.

As Kevin Byrne of the Irish Sun pointed out, at 23, he’s also already become a genuine universal boxer with his wealth of accomplishments within the sport thus far, internationally:

After his victory the humble Conlan who gave thanks for his massive support, touched on an inherent trait (belief) that almost all top boxers possess, that no doubt will serve as a great inspiration for all young fighters coming through not just in Ireland, but in world amateur boxing:

Coming from a proud boxing family with his brother Jamie an already established professional, and his father and trainer John’s hard work being a key part in his success, this young fighter looks set to ultimately reach the very top.

He’s already favourite with most bookmakers to capture Olympic Gold at next year’s games in Rio. Watch this space.
