Why Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan Might Be No-Win Situation For Khan

Bolton fighter Amir Khan could be in line to face boxing legend  Manny Pacquiao according to the Filipino’s promoter Bob Arum.

On a possible match up between the two Arum said, “This takes time and I will present everything to Manny and we’ll see what happens” – via Sky Sports.

For a long time now Khan has been in pursuit of a showdown with boxing’s number one pound for pound star Floyd Mayweather, but without success.

However as the saying goes “When one door closes another one opens” and Arum it would appear, is ready to pitch the idea to Pacquiao in the hope that a fight can be made for early next year possible in the city of Dubai or elsewhere in the Middle East.

Does this  fight make sense for Khan? Possibly, but make no mistake, Pacquiao is still a dangerous opponent for any fighter in the welterweight division and – this wouldn’t be an easy fight.

So what can Khan hope to gain from a future match up with his ex-sparring partner?

Even with no titles on the line, a victory against Pacquiao would be a genuine top notch name on his resume, a career high payday and the global boxing credibility he clearly  desires, potentially.

But the fight would not be without it’s pitfalls, and could be a double edged sword for the 28 year old former two-time world champion.

Win and some will view it as a hollow victory against an old and past prime version of Pacquiao, and lose (which would be likely in my opinion) against boxing’s first and only eight-division world champion, it would be seen as a disaster, with many people seeing it a loss to an old and past his best Manny Pacquiao.

An almost no win situation for Khan, really.

Maybe a fight closer to home against a certain Kell Brook might more advisable and beneficial to the Bolton man overall, but time will tell.
