Glowacki spectacularly Knocks Out Huck in 11

Possibly one of the upsets of the year went down last night in Newark, New Jersey.

Long time reigning WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck was set to make his 14th straight defense of his title and break the previous record held by Britain’s Johnny Nelson, but Poland’s undefeated Krysztof Glowacki had other plans.

In a fight that started at a brisk pace, the challenger laid down the gauntlet from the get go, outworking Huck early on – switching well to body and head at times.

As the mid rounds progressed Huck fought back strongly however, flooring the challenger in the sixth round with a big hook. It was clear that Glowacki was hurt, but his warrior spirit showed as he fought hard to see out the round.

In the next round the challenger got himself back into the fight by throwing crisp combinations and forcing the champion onto the back foot at times.

Huck came back again in the 8th round though, and proceeded to use some superior boxing skills at times in the 9th and 10th rounds that followed, which saw a cut open for the challenger above the eye in the 9th.

Then in the 11th, the challenger opened up with a brilliant flurry of combos that saw Huck badly hurt and on the canvas. Although he rose to his feet he was met with more of the same again, and the referee had seen enough.

In an entertaining fight Huck was ahead on the judges scorecards at the time of the stoppage, but the heart and warrior spirit of Glowacki proved enough to see him become the new WBO cruiserweight champion of the world.
