BoxNation Dublin Show Big Success: Post-Fight Analysis
We had a thriller last night at the national stadium – headlining act Jamie Conlan and Junior Granados really went to war.

Fight of the night
The fight started off cagey with Granados taking the center of the ring while Conlan moved and landed some good shots.
Conlan had a considerable height and reach advantage over the Mexican. But Granados like all Mexican fighters was tough and landed some good shots of his own in the early stages.
Conlan looked in cruise control but then in the 4th Granados landed a shot that shook Conlan, badly but he recovered well.
In the 5th Conlan regained control, had better timing and looked like the punch in the 4th had no lasting affects. Granados was targeting the right eye of Conlan with a lot of success – Jamie’s eye was badly swollen and his nose was bleeding heavy.
Then in round 7 the National Stadium was left shocked as Granados put Conlan down with a body shot. Conlan got back to his feet but he was in trouble as he was taking heavy shots on the ropes. Then Granados had him down again towards the end of the round.
Conlan looked finished but with the roar of the crowd he punched the canvas and got back to his feet. He still looked weary, the bell sounded, virtually saving Jamie.
Granados gave all he had in round 7 and come round 8 he had nothing left, which allowed Conlan to get back in the fight. Conlan came back with great spirit, really letting his shots go to which Granados had no answer.
With both men exhausted entering the final round, the crowd got to their feet and applauded both for their great spirit. It went to the judges who scored it 96-92 95-93 95-93 all in favour of Jamie Conlan, who is the now the WBO Intercontinental Super Flyweight Champion.
A great fight that could have gone either way.
Tommy Langford
Birmingham’s Tommy Langford kept his unbeaten record intact with a dominant performance against Julio Cesar Avalos.
The vacant WBO Intercontinental Middleweight Championship was on the line and Langford made sure the title would be going home with him.
Langford pushed back Avalos and was landing hurtful shots from the first bell, but Langford took his time making sure he didn’t get caught with a shot.
Langford’s jab was landing successfully nearly every time he threw it. Avalos offered little in return and in truth, looked a few level’s below Tommy Langford.
It was in the 4th where Langford put his foot on the gas, landing hurtful, clean shots and after a barrage of heavy hits the referee stepped in.
The Rock
Stephen Ormond got back to winning ways in his hometown with a fine performance against Jacek Wylezol of Poland.
Ormond was a man on a mission, he looked like he really wanted to put on a performance in front of his home crowd. And he did just that – by stopping Wylezol in the second round.
Declan Geraghty
Declan Geraghty put on the performance of the night from the home fighters. He displayed brilliant movement and speed against Dinars Skripkins.
Geraghty had the Latvian down 3 times in the 3rd round, leaving the ref with no choice but to wave it off. Geraghty looks the real deal and after this performance, he can definitely step up to a higher level.
Ryan Burnett
Ryan Burnett brought his record to 10-0-0 by defeating Csaba Kovacs of Hungary.
Burnett would’ve hoped for more rounds and a better test with the ref stopping the fight due to an injury to Kovacs shoulder in round 2.
The Pride of Dublin
Anthony Fitzgerald notched up a win in his hometown after defeating Kieron Gray on points.
A fight with not a whole lot of quality boxing but a solid win for the Dublin man. Fitzgerald had a point deducted in the 8th for hitting behind the head on route to his win over the duration.
Sean Turner
Fan favourite Sean Turner racked up another victory against Janis Ginters. This fight was never going to go the distance with Turner rocking Ginters with the very first punch of the fight.
Ginters offered little, with Turner constantly landing heavy shots, forcing Ginters’ corner to call it quits after the very first round.
Michael Rooney
Michael Rooney kicked off the night with a good stoppage win against Richard Walter. Rooney won by KO in the second round after a barrage of body punches.
