New Beginning Press Conference

Today was the press conference for the ‘New Beginning’ show coming up this Saturday at the national stadium in Dublin, live on BoxNation TV. It’s a card that features some of Ireland’s best fighters, with current WBO Inter-continental and European super flyweight champion Jamie Conlan headlining the bill.

Jamie Conlan

Jamie clearly can’t wait to get in the ring, “I’ve never looked forward to a fight more and on Saturday night Junior Granados is going to feel the pain.”

Granados is a real test for Conlan and the Mexican believes he can cause an upset come Saturday night, “On Saturday I will show I am the real Mexican and he is just a fake Mexican.”

Matthew Macklin

MGM’s Matthew Macklin says it a big night for Irish Boxing, “You have great prospects like Declan Geragthy, Sean Turner and Ryan Burnett who all had great success in the National Stadium as amateurs so they will want to show Irish fans what they can do in the pro ranks.”

Declan Geraghty

‘Pretty Boy’ Declan Geraghty sees Saturday as the first of many big nights in his career , “It’s great Jamie is headlining, but I think in a year or 2 I can be selling out shows and fighting for big titles.”

Geraghty who is returning from injury faces Dinars Skripkins in the Lightweight division.

Tommy Langford

The co main event will see Tommy Langford take on Julio Cesar Avalos for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental middleweight title.

Langford was due to face Ronny Mittag of Germany but he pulled out, Langford said of Avalos, “I’m now having to change to face a Mexican who is shorter and more of an attacker. I reckon he is going to be a much harder fighter than Mittag.”

Langford has won all of his 12 professional bouts and is very confident going into Saturday night.

Pride of Dublin, The Rock and Undercard

There will be no doubt a huge crowd following for Dubliner’s Anthony Fitzgerald and Stephen Ormond. Both fighters are coming off defeats and will be hoping to get back on track in front of their hometown fans.

Also on the bill Ryan Burnett faces Csaba Kovacs, Heavyweight hope Sean ‘Big Sexy’ Turner takes on Janis Ginters in a 4 rounder, Michael Rooney fights first time outside of the UK when he goes in with Richard Walter.

Irish Boxing Buzzing

Saturday is a huge night for Irish Boxing, the National Stadium is a sell out and Matthew Macklin hopes this is just the start of the big fight nights a the Stadium, “I hope this is just the start, it’s great that Irish Fighters can showcase their talents on Box Nation in front of a sold out crowd. I can’t wait it’s going to be really good.”

In other news from the press conference Steve Collins JR is out after fracturing his arm and Matthew Macklin said he hopes to fight for another 2 years.
