Roman Gonzalez Spectacularly Blitzes Sosa In 2 Rounds
The Nicaraguan flyweight king is quickly establishing himself as one of the best fighters in the sport, pound for pound.

WBC World flyweight champion Roman “Chocolatitio” Gonzalez was expected to have somewhat of a test last night when he took on a very game, experienced and former champion, in Edgar Sosa.
That never materialised.
Instead, a two round demolition job ensued that saw a careful start from Gonzalez (who appeared to be measuring Sosa early on) only to commence unloading scintillating combinations, as soon as he found his range.
The result for Sosa was multiple meetings with the canvas apron (three times in the second round) before the referee rightfully called a halt to the night’s proceedings, saving Sosa from serious damage.
The thing that impressed me about Gonzalez’s performance last night was his all round fight game, punch variation and ability to handle the big occasion.
In the two short rounds that the fight lasted, Gonzalez mixed up his attacks very well both to the body and the head, leaving a bewildered Sosa confused and overwhelmed.
Gonzalez’s technical ability was further amplified by his physical tools – with really breathtaking speed and power on show at times.
Gonzalez gave humble praise to the great Alexis Arguello, a fellow Nicaraguan and one of the all time greats. He thanked him for helping him.
“With the grace of God and through my training with Alexis Arguello, I was able to put on a performance like this,” the champion said.
He went on to mention, “I am so happy to be here on HBO. I’m very happy with my performance. He was a tough fighter but my power made the difference. I want to fight Juan Estrada next hopefully on HBO and hopefully in the United States.”
Last night was Roman Gonzalez’s first appearance on HBO, a big opportunity and boy did he seize it, as spectacular as live TV debuts come.
Gonzalez (27) improves his amazing record to 43-0, 37 of which coming inside the distance.
