20 straight wins inside the distance, can anyone put a dent in the armour of Gennady Golovkin?

Gennady “GGG” Golovkin added further to his growing notoriety last night in Inglewood, California, when he forced skillful southpaw Willie Monroe Jr into submission inside 6 rounds.

The fight started off in dominant fashion for the champion Golovkin, who dropped Monroe Jr twice in round two, the first been from a dynamite left hook, the second coming from a powerful right fisted follow up. A lot of credit it has to be said can be given to Monore for picking himself back up and making it into the third round.

Even more commendable was Monroe’s durability that he showcased, when after these heavy knockdowns in the second round he came out blasting in the fourth round, landing some brilliant punches on Golovkin, while also evading many of the champion’s attacks.

It was almost as if the Kazakhstan powerhouse was trying to show the crowd he was human on purpose, as in the fifth round he went straight back to his assertive earlier work and began picking up the tempo once again, stunning Monroe heavily again.

The Golovkin world class footwork and ability to cut off the ring really came to the forefront in the sixth round, as he hunted a retreating Monroe around the ring before putting him down again. This time Monroe had enough.

Gennady Golovkin improved his record to 33-0 (30KO) and this latest dominant performance will have surely added another notch in his belt when trying to entice some of the sport’s bigger attractions like Canelo and Cotto into future fights with him, from a financial point of view.

Golovkin’s been living in California for a while now with his family and he’s quickly developing a hometown reputation and following.

The “GGG” name and mystique continues to grow, lets hope he gets some of the big fights both he and the fans so desperately crave.
