DBB Bets/Predictions #6 – Klitschko, Figueroa, Thurman & Matthysse

Wladimir Klitschko vs Alex Leapai

Despite been hounded by a shirtless Shannon Briggs during the week at an explosive press conference, I think it will be more or less business as usual for Wlad this weekend. Alex Leapai comes into this in good form with 5 straight wins (4 inside the distance) but with Wlad coming off THAT Povetkin stinker in his last fight, I think he he’ll at least try to give the fans some value for money (I hope). I’m going with a Wlad win by KO/TKO (probably inside 6 rounds).

Omar Figueroa vs Jerry Belmontes

I’m really looking forward to seeing exciting Texas lightweight Omar Figueroa this weekend, who takes on durable and fellow Texan Jerry Belmontes.

Figueroa can certainly whack. This could be an exciting contest while it lasts as Belmontes should have enough armoury to absorb a lot of punishment, along with dishing some out himself too.

I’d be looking for a Figueroa win here, possibly by late stoppage or even over the 12 rounds on points (as Belmontes has never been stopped in his 3 defeats on record). A good scrap this one I would think.

keith thurman

Keith Thurman vs Julio Diaz

If your looking for a bit of explosiveness this weekend, then look no further then Keith “One Time” Thurman – the boy can dig (22-0, 20 KO’s). He comes into this one in great form too after a very solid 9th round TKO win over Jesus Soto Karass.

He steps into the ring for the WBA interim welterweight title with long campaigning and well known Mexican Julio Diaz. Big fan and have a lot of respect for him but unfortunately Julio doesn’t come into this in too much form and could be on the decline.

I’d be looking to a Thurman win by KO/TKO.

Lucas Matthysse vs John Molina

Last but certainly not least, we turn our attention to a clash of big hitting 140 pounder’s that sees a scrap for the vacant WBC Continental Americas light welterweight title in California this weekend.

I’ve always been a big fan of Matthysse who I think will come into this one all guns blazing after his points defeat and title heartbreak to Danny Garcia back in September.

However he has certainly not taken on a soft touch with his comeback fight. His opponent John Molina has mixed in decent class and is in fine form (having not long ago knocked out US prospect Mickey Bey) which if you ask me, really shows you what Lucas Matthysse is all about.

This could be a very violent one indeed, I don’t see it going the 12 to be honest. I’d be looking for Matthysse to bounce back in style here with a KO/TKO win.

– Enjoy the weekend’s action fight fans!
