Mayweather vs Canelo Stats - A Scientific Breakdown of The One

By Niall Doran

Below are some very insightful boxing statistics given to Doran’s Boxing Blog this week to feature in the run up to this weekend’s mega fight between Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez, courtesy of the good folks at Box Stat. From looking at the below scientific breakdown of “The One” the overall advantages seem to be in favour of the pound for pound king and more experienced of the two pugilists, in Floyd “Money” Mayweather. The statistics that favour the young champion from Mexico are in the youth, weight and power department. However as Floyd Mayweather always likes to say “skills pay the bills” or will the man known as “Money” finally be proved wrong this Saturday by the life force and power of Canelo in a changing of the guard? Fight fans all over the globe will no doubt be tuning in to find out!

Also featured below the main event’s breakdown, are some very interesting stats on the co-main event which sees an explosive welterweight showdown between Philadelphia’s Danny Garica and Argentina’s big hitting Lucas Matthysse. The statistics seem to be a little more even between these two as opposed to the main event. One has to wonder with the vicious power that both men can punch with, will this one see the final bell?

There is also some excellent fights on the under card of “The One” which on paper so far could really be the biggest boxing event in history, at least from a monetary point of view. The event has already smashed the gate record for a boxing event with estimated sales of over $20 million plus and reportedly A-list celebrities are even having trouble trying to buy tickets, as opposed to usually been given complimentary giveaways for the usual big fights in Vegas. This event also takes place on Mexican Independence weekend, so with Canelo’s massive following it really has the potential to perhaps even break the all time pay-per view record previously set by Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather a few years back.

No matter what part of the world you are in, enjoy this weekend’s mega event fight fans – in an epic show that could very well transcend the sport of boxing.
