Carl Frampton Leaves Matchroom: Doran’s Boxing Blog takes a look at his decision to leave Eddie Hearn & Matchroom to join Frank Warren at BoxNation

It did come as a little bit of a shock to me during the week when it was announced on Thursday that unbeaten rising Belfast star Carl ‘The Jackal’ Frampton announced at a press conference that he would now be boxing on BoxNation and no longer would be affiliated with Eddie Hearn at Matchroom Sports.
In a move that I’m sure surprised a lot of people the super bantamweight’s team just more or less said that they felt they would be a priority on BoxNation, almost implying that they may not have been with their previous broadcaster. Whatever the real reasons were behind the decision it certainly shows that Frank Warren is here to stay when in recent times a lot of people were writing him off and forecasting his downfall.
It’s almost one back for Frank in a time where recently he has lost many fighters to his rival and almost adversary Eddie Hearn. I liked what Eddie Hearn was doing with Frampton’s career and having been up in Belfast myself back in February for the Martinez victory, I can say first hand Frampton really has amazing support up there.
Maybe part of this decision was that reportedly his second, third and fourth fights under this new deal will all take place in his native Belfast where he has built up amazing support. Maybe Eddie Hearn as good as he is just could not get the dates in Belfast for Carl on a regular basis for the rest of the year? Who knows?
It probably would be fair to say now that he is with Frank Warren he will probably be able to stand out a little bit more as opposed to when he was just another fighter in a far larger number of star fighters at Matchroom. On BoxNation he could very well be given the platform to shine as really in the lighter weights he is now the channel’s main man.
He is certainly riding the crest of a wave coming off his sensational win back in February and it will be interesting to see who his next opponent will be on the Wembley card in July that will feature Paul Butler, Dereck Chisora, Billy Joe Saunders and Gary Spike O’Sullivan.
If you look at the super bantamweight division as a whole world wide it is certainly a stacked one with Guiilermo Rigondeaux sitting on top of it. Maybe Frampton won’t be ready for the likes of him for another 12-18 months but he certainly could be ready for someone like the IBF champ Romero sooner rather than later.
A fight that Irish and British fight fans alike would love to see would be obviously between him and Scott Quigg. This fight has seemed to be talked about for quiet a while now and it will be interesting to see if Frank Warren’s promotional clout and muscle might be able to finally get this fight on before either of the two fighters become world champion.
